Biography
Art A. Leis, M.D., has served as a neurologist and senior scientist at MRC since 1999. Dr. Leis earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona, followed by a neurology residency at the University of Texas in Houston and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Leis has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, including seminal work on the neurological manifestation of West Nile virus infection, which brought international recognition to MRC. He received the Golseth Award from the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) and was named a fellow of the AANEM, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. His research focuses on neuromuscular diseases, with emphasis on neuromuscular complications of viral infections.
