Biography

Jennifer May M. Villacorta, MD, PTRP is an Associate Professor in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation within the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She also serves as Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer at Methodist Rehabilitation, where she leads the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Program and chairs the Medical Executive and Credentialing Committees.

Dr. Villacorta is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. Her clinical expertise includes spinal cord injury rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, spasticity management, wound care, and interdisciplinary functional recovery for individuals with complex neurologic conditions. She is also certified in medical acupuncture and wound care, reflecting her comprehensive and integrative approach to rehabilitation.

A dedicated clinician–educator and researcher, Dr. Villacorta has contributed to multiple federally and foundation-funded research initiatives focused on neuromodulation and spasticity management in spinal cord injury. She is actively involved in academic medicine, mentorship, and program development, with a strong interest in quality improvement and advancing rehabilitative care delivery systems.

Dr. Villacorta completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and her fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She brings a patient-centered, academically grounded, and systems-focused perspective to her leadership roles across Mississippi’s rehabilitation community.
